Rear addition on a craftsman bungalow at dusk with board-and-batten siding and warm interior light

Fourlakes Design Build

Home additions that respect the original

The worst compliment an addition can get is “nice addition.” Ours aim for “wait, which part is new?”

Start a conversation

We design additions from the street in: matching eave lines, window proportions, and siding reveals so the new volume reads as original. Inside, the seam disappears because the trim comes out of our shop matched to your existing profiles.

Structural engineering, zoning and lakefront setbacks, and the City of Madison permit process are all handled in-house. You will see the massing in 3D from your own yard’s vantage points before anything is final.

Most of our additions solve one of three problems: a family room the house never had, a primary suite the second floor cannot hold, or a kitchen that deserves better light than the middle of the house. If a smart interior remodel can solve your problem for a third of the money, we will show you that option first — an addition should be the answer, not the reflex.

Why us

What working with Fourlakes is like

One team, one contract

Design, cabinetry, and construction under one roof. When something needs deciding, the decider is already on your job.

A fixed price before demo

You approve one number after design. It changes only if you change the scope, and we tell you the cost of a change before you make it.

Friday updates, every Friday

Photos, what happened this week, what happens next week, and any decisions we need from you. At 4pm, without fail.

The Second Winter Warranty

We come back after 14 months, once the house has been through a full freeze-thaw, and fix whatever moved. Nobody else in town offers this.

How it works

How a project runs

  1. Walk the house

We meet at your home, talk scope and budget honestly, and tell you on the spot if we are not the right fit.

  2. Design in the shop

Drawings, 3D previews, and materials you can hold, in the studio attached to our workshop. Ends with a fixed price.

  3. Build it once

A posted calendar, a dust wall, a broom-clean site every night, and cabinetry arriving from a mile away instead of a freight dock.

  4. Come back in winter

Final walkthrough, then the Second Winter visit 14 months later to make right anything the seasons moved.
